~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has recently reported a decline in passenger traffic, but there are signs of improvement on the horizon. According to the latest statistics, a total of 181,940 passengers traveled through COS in April 2025, which is a 6.2 percent decrease from the same time last year.
Despite this decrease, the airport remains committed to its long-term growth and has been actively promoting and attracting air service. As a result, seat availability has increased by 4.5 percent compared to last year, setting the stage for a strong 2025 as travel demand is expected to rise during the spring and summer months. The average load factor for April was 73.7 percent, which aligns with typical early-year travel patterns.
In addition to these promising signs of improvement, there are also some notable updates at COS that are worth mentioning. Southwest Airlines will be offering seasonal international service to Cancun (CUN) from June 7 to August 2, 2025. The airline will also resume these flights in the fall with flights on November 22 and 29, December 20 and 27, and January 3, 2026. Tickets for these flights are already on sale.

Furthermore, the new Federal Inspection Station (FIS) is set to open in June of this year just in time for the new international flights. This will make it easier for passengers traveling internationally through COS.
Southwest Airlines is also expanding its services at COS by offering year-round flights to San Diego (SAN) starting October 2, 2025. Tickets for these flights are also available for purchase now.
American Airlines will also be adding daily nonstop service to Chicago O'Hare (ORD) starting June 5, providing more options for travelers flying out of COS.
In other news, the Airport Ambassador Program recently celebrated its 20-year anniversary on May 9. With over 50 volunteers, this program plays a crucial role in providing a positive customer experience for visitors at COS. The volunteers serve as passenger concierges and also bring joy to travelers through the PAWS 4 COS therapy dog program.
There are also some updates on nonstop routes at COS. The airport now offers twice weekly service to three destinations, including Phoenix/Mesa (AZA), which is seasonal. There are also six daily flights with easy connecting service across the U.S. and worldwide.
