In response to the circumstances of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team (MCT) was called in to take over the investigation. While impairment is not suspected at this time, speed is believed to have played a role in the accident.

The following day, on April 8th, 2026, an autopsy was conducted by the El Paso County Coroner's Office on the deceased motorcycle operator. He has been identified as 48-year-old Michael DeRivera.

As of now, no formal charges have been filed and the investigation remains ongoing. This incident marks the 12th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs for 2026. In comparison, at this time last year there were only six traffic fatalities reported in the city. Over the past year alone, there have been a total of 59 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs.

The CSPD urges all drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on our roads.
