Colorado Springs: City to observe Labor Day on Monday

~ Colorado Springs, CO - As the nation prepares to celebrate Labor Day, the City of Colorado Springs has announced that all administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 1st. This includes offices for Mountain Metropolitan Transit, the City Administration Building, City Clerk, City Hall, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Colorado Springs Tennis, Deerfield Hills Community Center, Hillside Community Center, Meadows Park Community Center, Memorial Park Recreation Center, Municipal Court, Otis Park Community Center, Parks Recreation & Cultural Services Administration Building, Sales Tax Office, Sertich Ice Center and the Sports and Therapeutic Recreation Programs Office in Memorial Park.

However, some facilities will remain open for normal business hours unless otherwise noted. The Deerfield Hills Spray Ground will operate on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Monday being the final day of operation for this year. The Garden of the Gods Park will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., but starting November 1st it will have fall hours from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Julie Penrose Fountain at America the Beautiful Park will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with sessions divided into time slots for safety purposes. Monday will be the final day of operation for this year. Patty Jewett Golf Course will also be open from 7 a.m. to dusk on Monday with the City Golf Championship taking place on Sunday.

Panorama Park Spray Ground will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., but Monday is also its final day of operation for this year. Pikes Peak - America's Mountain will have uphill gates open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the summit closing at 7 p.m. and downhill gates closing at 8 p.m., weather permitting.

Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, with a special Labor Day Vintage Base Ball game starting at 1 p.m. The Water Hole at Venezia Park will also be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with sessions divided into time slots for safety and Monday being the final day of operation for this year.

Uncle Wilber Fountain in Acacia Park will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, with it also being the final day of operation for this year. Valley Hi Golf Course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk, with the City Golf Championship taking place on Saturday.

In addition to these facilities, the annual Labor Day Lift Off event will take place in Memorial Park from Saturday, August 30th to Monday, September 1st. Produced by Hot Apple Productions in partnership with the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation and Rainbow Ryders Hot Air Balloon Company, this free event is expected to draw large crowds.

To accommodate the expected number of attendees, the city is encouraging people to plan ahead and arrive early. Handicap parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Sertich Ice Center parking lots, which can be accessed through Pikes Peak Avenue and Union.
