DENVER ~ In Denver, the Colorado General Assembly has officially concluded its 2025 Special Legislative Session, which was called for by Governor Polis. The session was aimed at addressing the billion-dollar budget crisis caused by President Trump and H.R. 1, a bill supported by Congressman Evans, Congressman Hurd, Congresswoman Boebert, and Congressman Crank. On the other hand, Senator Bennet, Senator Hickenlooper, Congresswoman DeGette, Congressman Neguse, Congressman Crow, and Congresswoman Pettersen opposed the bill.
According to Governor Polis, the Colorado legislators rose to the occasion and took necessary steps to protect children's access to food and minimize the impact of rising health insurance premiums across the state. He also mentioned that H.R. 1 had significantly increased the deficit of the United States and created a major hole in Colorado's budget that threatened essential services such as education, transportation, and healthcare.

During this special session, Colorado lawmakers took action where the federal government failed to do so. They closed special interest corporate tax loopholes and balanced the state budget while safeguarding funding for schools, roads, and healthcare. Governor Polis expressed his gratitude towards the General Assembly for their efforts during this legislative session and their dedication to delivering tangible results for Coloradans.
Earlier today, Governor Polis signed two bills aimed at supporting children and families' access to healthy food and ensuring that Coloradans continue to have access to wellness visits, preventative care, and cancer screenings. These measures were necessary as they addressed cuts made by Trump and Congressional Republicans through H.R. 1.
The conclusion of this special legislative session marks a significant step towards stabilizing Colorado's budget and protecting vital services for its citizens. The efforts of Governor Polis and the General Assembly have shown their commitment towards prioritizing the well-being of Coloradans above political interests.
