DENVER ~ Denver, CO - The national service community has honored Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera with the prestigious State Service Leadership Award from America's Service Commissions (ASC). This award recognizes her exceptional leadership and dedication to national service and volunteerism, particularly in regards to AmeriCorps.

The ASC Innovation and Leadership Awards celebrate individuals across the country who have taken concrete action to utilize national service and volunteerism to address pressing community needs in innovative ways. Lt. Governor Primavera is being recognized for her unwavering advocacy, hands-on involvement with AmeriCorps members, and pioneering efforts to expand service programs that address critical priorities in Colorado, such as mental health and wildfire mitigation.

Since taking office, Lt. Governor Primavera has worked closely with Serve Colorado, the Governor's Commission on Community Service, to usher in a new era of growth and innovation in AmeriCorps programming. She has actively engaged communities throughout the state to identify areas of greatest need and strategically utilize national service to address them.

Through her efforts in connecting AmeriCorps members with meaningful service opportunities, Lt. Governor Primavera has not only strengthened communities but also advanced workforce development by equipping members with valuable skills and experience that benefit both themselves and the communities they serve. She played a key role in launching the Colorado COVID Containment Response Corps, the Public Health Apprenticeship, and the new Youth Mental Health Corps. These groundbreaking initiatives not only expanded opportunities for AmeriCorps members but also made lasting improvements in the health and well-being of communities across the state.

Earlier this year, when the federal government abruptly cancelled over $400 million in AmeriCorps grants nationwide, Lt. Governor Primavera took immediate action. She rallied her fellow lieutenant governors, led advocacy efforts to Congress, coordinated a media response, and ensured that every AmeriCorps member serving in Colorado could complete their service term.
