DENVER ~ Denver - In a move authorized by the Colorado Constitution, Lieutenant Governor appointed Laura E. H. Harvell to the 7th Judicial District Court today. This appointment comes after the retirement of Honorable Mary E. Deganhart and will officially take effect on January 1, 2026.
Harvell is currently serving as a Montrose County Court Judge in the 7th Judicial District, a position she has held since 2022. Her responsibilities include presiding over criminal and civil cases. Prior to this role, Harvell was the Owner of the Law Office of Laura Harvell, P.C., where she had a contract with the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel and the Office of Respondent Parents' Counsel from 2018 to 2022. She also worked as an Associate Attorney at the Law Office of Jennifer E. Longtin, P.C. from 2016 to 2018 and as an Attorney at the Office of Municipal Public Defender from 2014 to 2016.

Harvell's educational background includes a Bachelor's degree from the College of Charleston in 2007 and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2014.
With her extensive experience in various legal roles and her strong education background, Ms. Harvell is well-equipped to serve as a judge in the 7th Judicial District Court. Her appointment is expected to bring valuable insights and expertise to the court system starting next year.
