Colorado: Governor Polis Signs Laws to Help Hardworking Coloradans & Address Property Tax Challenges

ARVADA ~ Today, Governor Polis signed new laws passed by the state legislature from the 74th General Assembly's special session at a school in Arvada. These new laws are designed to help hardworking Coloradans, ensure that thousands of Colorado children have access to the food they need to succeed, and address long-term property tax challenges.

The Governor was joined by a bipartisan group of county commissioners and mayors at the bill signing. SB23B-002: Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer Program, sponsored by Senators Rachel Zenzinger and Jeff Bridges, and Representatives Shannon Bird and Lorena Garcia, and HB23B-1001: Emergency Rental Assistance Grant Program were both signed into law.

The most notable bill signed was HB23B-1003: Property Task Force, sponsored by Representative Marc Snyder, Senator Kyle Mullica, and Senate President Steve Fenberg. This bill was designed to provide relief for hardworking Coloradans while also providing support for those who need help staying in their homes and accessing healthy food.

Local county commissioners have expressed their appreciation for Governor Polis including stakeholders and local elected officials in this process. Teller County Commissioner Dan Williams said "This bill is tailored to the unique environments and conditions that exist in different parts of our state but one that will benefit all Coloradans". Summit County Commissioner Tamara Pogue said "The work of this task force could not be more important to the future of Colorado". Grand County Commissioner Rich Cimino said "I appreciate Governor Polis signing this bill, and I look forward to the Task Force recommendations". Adams County Commissioner Steve O'Dorisio said "Any proposed changes to property taxes must balance the desire to help families minimize their tax burden, while maximizing their access to services that these families need". Park County Commissioner Dick Elsner said "HB23B-1003 guarantees that commissioners from five different regions of the state will serve on the commission".

Governor Polis stated "This special session was about delivering relief for hardworking Coloradans...while paving the way for long-term solutions to reduce the cost of living". With these new laws being signed into effect today, it is clear that Colorado is taking steps towards providing much needed relief for its citizens while also ensuring they have access to essential services such as food security and housing stability.
