DENVER ~ Denver, CO - As the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Governor Jared Polis has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the lives lost in the terrorist attack. The order, which aligns with President Trump's proclamation, will be in effect from sunrise to sunset on Friday, September 11, 2026.

In a statement released today, Governor Polis reflected on the impact of the attacks and expressed his condolences to those who continue to grieve. "September 11 was a day that will forever be etched in our memories. Even after 25 years, it is still difficult to comprehend the horrific events that took place on our own soil," he said.

The governor also acknowledged that for many Coloradans who were too young or not yet born at the time of the attacks, today serves as a somber reminder of that fateful day. He emphasized the importance of honoring and remembering those who lost their lives and recognizing the bravery of first responders who risked their own safety to help others.

"We honor the 2,977 lives lost and we thank the first responders who ran towards danger without hesitation," Governor Polis stated. "We also recommit ourselves to the unity that carried us through those dark days."

Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera also shared her thoughts on this solemn occasion. "We remember not only the individuals we lost but also their families and communities who were forever impacted by their loss," she said. She highlighted how September 11 has become a National Day of Service and encouraged everyone to turn grief into action by performing acts of service in honor of those who perished.

As Colorado joins together in remembrance and reflection on this significant anniversary, flags across the state will fly at half-staff as a symbol of respect for those whose lives were tragically cut short on September 11, 2001.
