DENVER ~ On Thursday, December 7th, 2023, flags across the state of Colorado will be flown at half-staff in honor of the Americans who died in service of their country at Pearl Harbor. This order was given by Governor Polis and directed by President Biden.
President Biden issued a proclamation to commemorate National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. In it, he remembered the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed in the unprovoked attack on our Armed Forces 82 years ago. He also honored those brave service members who defended freedom against fascism during World War II.
The proclamation also reminded us that we have the power to build a better world from death, destruction, and division. It also reminded us that every generation can — and must — defeat democracy's mortal foes.

President Biden also noted that his Administration is meeting its obligation to care for our service members; veterans; and their families, caregivers, and survivors — including now welcoming all World War II veterans to enroll in Veterans Affairs health care services regardless of length of service or financial status.
The Congress has designated December 7th of each year as "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day" and President Biden asked all Americans to reflect on the courage shown by our brave service members that day and remember their sacrifices. He asked us all to give sincere thanks and appreciation to the survivors of that unthinkable day.
President Biden concluded his proclamation by urging all Federal agencies, interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff on December 7th in honor of those American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.
Governor Polis' order is just one way for Coloradans to remember this important day in history and honor those who gave their lives for our country.
