Colorado: Governor Polis Gets Protected

Trending...
DENVER ~ As the respiratory virus season approaches, Governor Polis of Colorado is urging his fellow citizens to take preventative measures by getting vaccinated against both the flu and COVID-19. Joined by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ned Calonge and State Epidemiologist Dr. Rachel Herlihy, Governor Polis received his flu and COVID-19 shots at a local pharmacy in Denver.

Governor Polis emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated during this time of year when children are back in school and the weather is getting colder. He encouraged Coloradans to join him in taking this simple step to protect themselves and their families from illness.

To make it easier for residents to access these vaccines, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has created a webpage called "Find a Vaccine Provider" where individuals can locate low or no-cost options at public health clinics, primary care offices, and pharmacies across the state.

Dr. Rachel Herlihy, state epidemiologist, stressed that as we enter the respiratory virus season, it is crucial to remember that flu, COVID-19, and RSV can be serious and even life-threatening for those at higher risk. She emphasized that getting vaccinated not only reduces the risk of becoming seriously ill but also helps prevent the spread of these viruses to others.

CDPHE chief medical officer Dr. Ned Calonge echoed these sentiments, stating that receiving both the flu and updated COVID-19 vaccines is the best defense against severe illness, hospitalization, and death. To make it easier for Coloradans to access these vital protections, Governor Polis and CDPHE issued a Public Health Order on September 3rd allowing pharmacists to administer COVID-19 vaccines without individual prescriptions.

This standing order went into effect on September 5th, making it possible for individuals to walk into their local pharmacy and receive these important vaccinations without any additional barriers.

With flu season quickly approaching and COVID-19 still a threat, Governor Polis and health officials are urging all Coloradans to take advantage of these available vaccines to protect themselves and their communities. By taking this simple step, individuals can help keep themselves and others healthy during the respiratory virus season.
