~ Colorado Springs, CO - On Sunday, Mayor Yemi Mobolade joined community members at the Hillside Community Center for Hey Neighbor's State of the Neighborhoods Community Luncheon. The event was a celebration of the people, places, and partnerships that make Colorado Springs neighborhoods thrive.

During the luncheon, Mayor Yemi issued a mayoral proclamation declaring September 28, 2025 as Good Neighbor Day in Colorado Springs. This day will serve as a reminder for residents to reach out to one another and create neighborhoods of connection and belonging.

The mayor also presented the Spirit of the Springs Award to June Waller, a longtime community leader who has dedicated over six decades of her life to serving Colorado Springs. Waller's tireless efforts have focused on closing gaps in housing, opportunity, and belonging within the city.

In his remarks, Mayor Yemi emphasized the importance of neighborhood connections as the foundation of a thriving city. He called on all residents to celebrate Good Neighbor Day by showing up for one another and building strong community connections.

"Today we celebrate a simple but powerful truth: strong neighborhoods make a strong city," said Mayor Yemi. "Being a good neighbor means lending a hand and building connections that turn streets into communities."
