DENVER ~ Today, Governor Jared Polis and Jill Hunsaker Ryan, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), released statements in response to the Supreme Court decision on Sackett v U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which impacts the Waters of the U.S.

Polis expressed his disappointment in the Court's decision, saying it "has once again sided with special interests and polluters, by severely lessening protections for drinking water, wetlands, and tributaries." He also emphasized his commitment to protecting Colorado's water resources for the health and safety of Coloradans, wildlife, and its economy.

Hunsaker Ryan noted that CDPHE had been planning for this decision and had already developed a draft policy with partners from throughout the state to ensure that Colorado waters are protected while moving toward a long-term solution. She said that they need clarity and stability in the rules so that they can responsibly grow while also protecting natural resources.

The Supreme Court's decision has been met with criticism from environmental groups who argue that it will weaken protections for drinking water sources across the country.
