Beloved Colorado event raises funds for cancer patients, families, and caregivers

CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. - ColoradoDesk -- One of Colorado's most meaningful summer traditions returns to the Elk Mountains this July. On Saturday, July 26th, hundreds of hikers will gather at Mt. Crested Butte for the 26th Annual Summit Hike (https://livingjourneys.org/summit-hike-2025/) — an inspiring, community-driven event supporting individuals and families affected by cancer.

Hosted by Living Journeys, (https://livingjourneys.org/) a nonprofit that was founded in 2000 to help support Gunnison Valley residents impacted by cancer, the Summit Hike invites participants to hike to the 12,162-foot summit of Mt. Crested Butte, take a scenic chairlift ride and explore from the top, or enjoy food, music, and festivities at the base. Open to all ages, the event welcomes locals and visitors for a family-friendly day of remembrance, support and celebration.

As national funding for cancer research and support programs faces increasing uncertainty, local organizations like Living Journeys have become more essential than ever. Events like the Summit Hike not only raise critical funds — they strengthen the fabric of support around individuals and families who are navigating one of life's hardest challenges.

Proceeds from the event directly fund Living Journeys' year-round cancer support services, including meal delivery, transportation assistance, financial grants, and free therapy for individuals facing a diagnosis — as well as for their families and caregivers.

Tickets are $50 for adults and $35 for kids 12 & under. Registration includes:
  • One-time scenic chairlift ride on the Red Lady or Silver Queen Express chairlift
  • Catered Taco Bar Lunch, plus light breakfast items and coffee to start the day
  • Premium swag bag with this year's exclusive Summit Hike t-shirt
  • Complimentary snacks, beverages, and family-friendly activities at the base area
  • Live DJ and a festive atmosphere
"The Summit Hike is a chance to experience the beauty of Mt. Crested Butte while standing in solidarity with those impacted by cancer," says Julie Reid, Executive Director of Living Journeys. "It's a meaningful tradition that brings people together in an unforgettable way."
