DENVER ~ The search for Colorado's next Poet Laureate has officially begun, as nominations are now being accepted for this prestigious position. The Poet Laureate of Colorado serves as the state's ambassador for poetry and is responsible for engaging with communities across the state through readings and workshops.
Governor Polis expressed the importance of finding a Poet Laureate who reflects the spirit of Colorado and its love for poetry and the arts. The passing of former Poet Laureate Andrea Gibson was a tragic loss, but their legacy continues to inspire others. The Governor hopes to find a successor who will not only build on Gibson's legacy but also inspire young poets in Colorado and bring people together through writing and prose.

Nominations will be open until October 27, 2025, giving individuals and organizations ample time to submit their nominations. Self-nominations are also accepted, and anyone can nominate a poet for consideration. Nominators are encouraged to work closely with their nominees to ensure all necessary information is included in the nomination form.
The ideal candidate for Poet Laureate should possess exceptional poetic talent, a strong commitment to community engagement, and a desire to promote the appreciation of poetry throughout Colorado.
