DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis joined members of the pollinator protector community and Colorado pollinators at the Denver Botanical Gardens' "Big Day of Bugs" event today to celebrate Colorado Pollinator Month. The event was held to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators and their role in sustaining Colorado's ecosystem.
During his speech, Governor Polis emphasized the crucial role that pollinators play in our daily lives. From providing us with delicious fruits like Palisade peaches and Rocky Ford melons, to creating the stunning wildflower landscapes that cover the Rocky Mountains, pollinators are essential for our survival and enjoyment of life in Colorado.
"We need pollinators to produce the food we eat, enjoy the beautiful landscapes Colorado is known for, and protect the wildflowers and plants that we love," said Governor Polis. He also stressed the importance of protecting these vital creatures for future generations to experience the beauty and grandeur of our state.

In May, Governor Polis signed HB26-1132 - Practices to Support Pollinators, which aims to protect pollinators by prioritizing the planting of native Colorado plants on state land. Additionally, in 2024, Governor Polis and the Colorado Department of Natural Resources released the Pollinator Report. This report assessed the health of Colorado's native pollinators, evaluated ways for state policies to better protect them, and made recommendations on how to preserve and safeguard them in Colorado.
The "Big Day of Bugs" event was a reminder that it is our responsibility to protect these important creatures that contribute so much to our environment. With initiatives like HB26-1132 and ongoing efforts from organizations like the Denver Botanical Gardens, it is clear that Colorado is committed to preserving its diverse ecosystem for generations to come.
