Colorado: State Requests Full SNAP Food Assistance Funding for November, SNAP participants will likely see full payments over the next few days

DENVER (Nov. 7, 2025) ~ Denver, CO - In a swift response to the ongoing government shutdown, the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) announced today that they will be submitting a request to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payment vendor for full payments to be made for the month of November. This request, if approved, will provide much-needed relief to over 600,000 Coloradans who rely on SNAP benefits to purchase healthy food.

Governor Jared Polis expressed his commitment to ensuring that no Coloradan goes hungry during this difficult time. "We are moving fast to make sure Coloradans aren't going hungry," he stated. "My administration and the Colorado Department of Human Services will continue working tirelessly to ensure that SNAP food assistance is distributed as soon as possible so every household can stay healthy and nourished."

This announcement comes after a week of conflicting updates from the federal government, causing confusion and uncertainty for states and SNAP participants. However, following a court order from the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island directing the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) to release full SNAP funding and FNS's statement that they are beginning this process, CDHS is taking immediate action with their vendor to load full payments onto Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.

CDHS Executive Director Michelle Barnes emphasized the importance of SNAP in providing access to healthy food for individuals and families in need. "The availability of full funds will be a relief to the thousands of Coloradans who have been waiting for their November food assistance payments," she said. "No family or child should have to go hungry because of a government shutdown."

For those who may still need additional food resources during this time, CDHS encourages them to reach out to local food banks or community agencies. Resources can also be found by contacting Colorado 211 or visiting www.feedingcolorado.org/find-food.

In light of these developments, CDHS also reminds SNAP recipients to protect themselves from potential fraud. They recommend freezing EBT cards when not in use, changing PIN numbers frequently, and avoiding simple PINs. More tips and a video on protecting EBT funding can be found on the CDHS website.

CDHS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed to ensure that Coloradans are informed about any impacts to their food assistance. In the meantime, they encourage those who are able to support their neighbors by donating to local food banks or community organizations at www.feedingcolorado.org/donate. Cash donations are especially helpful as they have a greater purchasing power for food.

As the situation continues to evolve, CDHS remains committed to ensuring that all Coloradans have access to healthy food during this challenging time.
