On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at approximately 4:04 P.M., officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department's (CSPD) Gold Hill Division were dispatched to a reported shooting near the southeast corner of Memorial Park located at 900 Prospect Lake Drive.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives from CSPD's Homicide/Assault Unit responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Detectives identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for the charge of First Degree Assault. The suspect has been identified as 49-year-old Demetrius Howard of Colorado Springs.

On Monday, October 14, 2019, Howard was taken into custody by members of CSPD's Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force and K-9 unit. Howard was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. This case is still an active investigation.
