Colorado Springs: Robbery Arrest 2835 Briargate Blvd

On Friday, August 2, 2019, at approximately 10:10 A.M., a male suspect wearing a mask and armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun robbed the Academy Bank located at 2835 Briargate Boulevard. The suspect confronted the security guard and told her to back off or he would kill her. The suspect then fired a shot as he threw a bag at a teller and demanded cash. While the teller placed cash from her drawer into the bag, the suspect pointed the gun at a second teller and fired a second shot in her direction. The suspect took the cash, exited the bank, and was last seen fleeing southbound on foot. Detectives from the Colorado Springs Police Department's Robbery Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Through the detectives' investigative efforts, the suspect was identified as 19 year old Avi-Awan Riddle-Doby of Colorado Springs, who was already wanted for Escape. Surveillance operations located Riddle-Doby at a residence in the 1300 block of Shasta Drive. With the assistance of the CSPD's Tactical Enforcement and K-9 Units, the residence was secured and Riddle-Doby was taken into custody without incident for the outstanding Escape warrant. Riddle-Doby was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. On August 19, 2019, Robbery Unit detectives charged Riddle-Doby with Aggravated Robbery and 1st Degree Kidnapping as a result of their investigation.
