~ Colorado Springs Police Department's K9 Koa is set to receive a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to the generosity of non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest was sponsored by Shána Leeper of Colorado Springs, CO and will be embroidered with the words "In memory of Beverly McIllwain". It is expected to be delivered within the next ten weeks.
Established in 2009, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charity with a mission to provide protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs throughout the United States. These vests are custom-fitted, U.S.-made, and certified by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), making them potentially life-saving for four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, the organization has provided over 6,348 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states, thanks to donations from both private individuals and corporations.

The program is open to all U.S. dogs who are at least 20 months old and actively employed with law enforcement or related agencies. Even K9s with expired vests are eligible to participate. With an estimated 30,000 law enforcement dogs across the country, this program has the potential to make a significant impact on their safety.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. welcomes tax-deductible contributions of any amount towards their cause. A single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest for a deserving K9 officer. Each vest has a value of $1800 and comes with a five-year warranty. Those interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities can call (508) 824-6978 or visit their website at www.vik9s.org. Donations can also be mailed to P.O Box 9 in East Taunton, MA 02718.
The organization not only provides information and accepts donations through their website, but they also list upcoming events where people can get involved and support their cause. With the help of generous donors, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. continues to make a difference in the lives of K9 officers across the country.
