~ At the City Council Regular Meeting on Tuesday, March 10th, District 2 Councilmember Tom Bailey announced his resignation from the Colorado Springs City Council. This decision was made following a successful certified recall petition from District 2 residents. Bailey, who was elected to City Council in April of 2025, will officially step down from his position.
As a result of this resignation, the City Council will now begin the process of filling the partial term which expires in April of 2027. This twelve-month appointment will be followed by a two-year term for District 2 on the April 2027 Municipal Election ballot. The appointed Councilmember will then have the opportunity to run for re-election. Starting in April 2029, the District 2 seat will resume its standard four-year election cycle.
Interested individuals who reside in District 2 and meet certain requirements are encouraged to apply for this appointment. Applicants must be at least twenty-five years old, a resident of Colorado Springs for at least one year prior to their appointment, a citizen of the United States, and maintain a residence within Council District 2.
