~ Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade has announced the appointment of Wayne Williams as the interim Chief of Staff for the city. This decision brings together two former mayoral opponents who have put their differences aside to serve the community and deliver results for its residents.
Williams is a well-known public servant with a wealth of experience in both local and statewide government. He previously held positions such as Colorado Secretary of State from 2015 to 2019, El Paso County Clerk and Recorder from 2012 to 2015, El Paso County Commissioner from 2003 to 2011, and most recently served as an At-Large City Councilmember for Colorado Springs from 2019 to 2023. During his time on the City Council, he was also elected as Board Chair of Colorado Springs Utilities.
In a statement, Mayor Mobolade expressed his confidence in Williams' abilities and highlighted their shared commitment to working together for the betterment of Colorado Springs. "Here in Colorado Springs, we are choosing a different story," said Mobolade. "While national politics can feel divisive and gridlocked, we are focused on coming together to get things done. This decision is about delivering real results for our city."

Mobolade and Williams first met as opponents during the 2023 mayoral election. Despite their differences during the campaign, they have since collaborated on various projects aimed at bringing the community together. This includes a joint video message after the intense mayoral runoff election.
As Chief of Staff, Williams will play a crucial role in coordinating efforts across different city departments, implementing strategic priorities, and advising Mayor Mobolade on policy and operations. "I am proud to bring my leadership and experience to this important role in the city," said Williams. "I'm anxious to get started and serve the residents of Colorado Springs alongside Mayor Yemi."
This appointment reflects Mayor Mobolade's approach towards prioritizing collaboration, problem-solving, and results-driven leadership. Williams will officially begin his role as interim Chief of Staff on April 20th.
