With more than 9,000 acres of parkland to maintain and preserve, the Colorado Springs' Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department usually has many projects that could use an extra hand. Volunteer opportunities in our parks system abound. Whether it is a one-time service project or a long-term volunteer position, there are many ways to get involved.
City employees work tirelessly throughout the year to maintain and protect our trails, open spaces and parks. One of the ways you can give back to your community is by contributing your skills and passion to the conservation of our public land. This helps support sustainable and healthy spaces for both recreation and wildlife habitat.
This summer, we are teaming up with the U.S. Forest Service – Pikes Peak Ranger District for a stewardship workday on July 23. Join us as we restore two areas at the boundary of Blodgett Open Space and Pike National Forest where there is significant damage from cut-through traffic and undesignated trail use. Additional opportunities to work on our extensive trail system are often available through friends' groups and the Rocky Mountain Field Institute (RMFI), essential community partners.

If trail building and maintenance is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other opportunities including coaching youth sports, working as a docent at the Garden of the Gods Exhibit Hall or Pioneers Museum, or assisting with programming at our community centers. Meeting new people, learning new skills, and giving back to the community are all benefits you can gain from volunteering – benefits that last a lifetime.
