Colorado Springs: City to remove El Paso Street Bridge over Platte Avenue

Trending...
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs has announced plans to remove the El Paso Street Bridge over Platte Avenue, starting on Saturday, Oct. 12. This decision comes after the bridge was struck by a vehicle in August 2021, causing serious damage that cannot be repaired. As a result, the bridge has been closed to traffic since the incident.

The removal work is expected to take place over three days and will result in the closure of Platte Avenue in both directions. The project is weather dependent and is estimated to be completed by Tuesday, Oct. 15.

To accommodate for the road closure, westbound traffic will be detoured south on Hancock Avenue, then west on Pikes Peak Avenue and north on Wahsatch Avenue before continuing west on Platte. Eastbound traffic will detour south on Wahsatch Avenue, east on Colorado Avenue (which turns into Pikes Peak), north on Hancock Avenue, and finally east on Platte.

Despite the road closure, access to homes in the area will be maintained throughout the project. Additionally, the walking path that carries the Shooks Run Trail will remain open.

For more information about the closure and work being done, individuals can contact City Engineering at 719-385-5908 or City.Engineering@ColoradoSprings.gov.
