Colorado: Governor Polis Verbally Declares Disaster Emergency In Response to Gold Mountain Fire in Ouray County

DENVER ~ In response to the ongoing Gold Mountain Fire in Ouray County, Governor Polis has declared a disaster emergency today. The fire, which is estimated to have burned 572 acres so far, has prompted the Governor to activate the State Emergency Operations Plan.

Under this declaration, the Department of Public Safety and its Divisions of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) and Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) will take charge of all response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for the Gold Mountain Fire. This includes deploying state and interagency engines and handcrews, as well as DFPC and interagency aviation resources.

To assist with managing the fire and containment efforts, incident management personnel and overhead will also be provided. Additionally, DFPC will offer administrative and financial oversight for Ouray County and the incident. They will also provide intelligence products such as imaging, mapping, and fire behavior modeling.

The DHSEM is also offering direct support to the Ouray County Emergency Manager and their emergency operations center by providing on-site area field managers. With these measures in place, officials are working diligently to contain the Gold Mountain Fire and protect affected communities.
