Colorado: Governor Polis Takes Executive Action to Provide State Resources for Stone Canyon Fire

Trending...
STATEWIDE ~ In a swift response to the ongoing wildfires in Colorado, Governor Jared Polis has declared a verbal state of disaster emergency for the Stone Canyon Fire. This declaration, in addition to the ones made earlier today for the Alexander Mountain and Currant Creek Fires, activates the State Emergency Operations Plan and directs various departments to take necessary actions.

Governor Polis stated, "Just as we are doing for the Alexander Mountain and Currant Creek Fires, we are taking immediate action to provide important state support more quickly that can help contain the Stone Canyon Fire as quickly as possible and support those impacted."

The State of Colorado is taking a comprehensive approach to support the response, management, and containment of not only the Stone Canyon Fire in Boulder County but also the Currant Creek Fire in Delta County, Alexander Mountain Fire in Larimer County, and Ed Joe Draw Fire in San Miguel County. This includes utilizing statewide resources such as aviation support from FIREHAWK® and crew, three air tankers, two multi-mission aircrafts, two Type-2 helicopters with crews. Additionally, there are fire engines, firefighter crews, intelligence and management support, communications support, road closure assistance, traffic control measures, shelter and volunteer support teams, veterinary medical teams, and drone operations.

To ensure that citizens receive timely information about evacuation orders and other emergency alerts related to these fires, Coloradans are encouraged to sign up for county emergency alerts through their local public safety agency. Links to sign up for these alerts can be found on the Department of Public Safety's website.

As these wildfires continue to ravage parts of Colorado, it is crucial for citizens to stay informed and follow all safety protocols issued by authorities. The state government remains committed to providing all necessary resources and assistance in response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for these fires.
