DENVER ~ In a somber announcement today, Governor Jared Polis has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff on Monday, September 9, 2024, in honor of two Colorado Department of Transportation workers who tragically lost their lives in a crash last week. Trent Umberger and Nathan Jones were dedicated maintainers with the department and were killed in a devastating accident on Highway 6 in Mesa County on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

Governor Polis expressed his condolences to the families of Umberger and Jones, as well as passenger Kathi Wallace who also lost her life in the crash. He acknowledged that no words can ease the pain for their loved ones but assured them that the state of Colorado stands with them during this difficult time.
To pay tribute to the lives and service of these individuals, Governor Polis has ordered flags to be lowered from sunrise to sunset on Monday. This gesture serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these dedicated workers and their commitment to serving the people of Colorado.
