DENVER ~ In a recent press release, Governor Polis of Colorado celebrated the latest data from the Colorado State Patrol, which showed a significant decrease in auto thefts in 2025. According to the governor, this is a clear indication that their efforts to combat crime are paying off and they are determined to continue this trend.
Governor Polis expressed his excitement over the 34% decrease in auto thefts in 2025, which is a 56% reduction since 2021. He credited this success to their smart and data-driven investments in supporting law enforcement and preventing crime. The governor also urged the legislature to maintain funding for these efforts in order to make Colorado one of the top ten safest states and further reduce auto theft.
The state of Colorado has seen a consistent decline in motor vehicle theft (MVT) crimes for three consecutive years now. This year's decrease of 34% is higher than the national average, indicating that their strategies are effective. Additionally, it was reported that 80% of all reported auto thefts were successfully recovered in 2025.

One notable area where this decline was particularly significant was at Denver International Airport (DEN), which saw an impressive 87% decrease in auto theft reports compared to 2023. This can be attributed to a collaborative effort between various agencies such as the Governor's office, the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS), the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA), Beat Auto Theft Through Law Enforcement (BATTLE), CATPA Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force (CMATT), Denver Police Department (DPD), and Denver International Airport.
Overall, these results demonstrate the effectiveness of their multi-faceted approach towards reducing auto thefts and making Colorado a safer place for its residents. With continued support and funding, they hope to see even more progress in the future.
