CHICAGO - ColoradoDesk -- Inspired by the timeless wisdom of naturalist Loren Eiseley, author Kathleen Welton's new novel, The Star Thrower, transforms a beloved philosophical essay into a high-stakes modern battle for wildlife.
In Eiseley's original 1969 essay, a man famously encounters a figure on a beach throwing stranded starfish back into the sea. When told he cannot possibly save them all, the thrower replies: "It made a difference to that one."
In Kathleen Welton's reimagining, three friends—Ava, Sam, and Leo—embark on a post-graduation trip to Bali with a simple pact: to find their true purpose. Their resolve is tested when they are thrust into a legal "David-vs-Goliath" battle against a corporation responsible for a devastating environmental spill. Much like Eiseley's protagonist, the trio must decide if they have the courage to stand against the tide to save their coastal community and its endangered wildlife.

"Readers who are passionate about the environment will appreciate The Star Thrower," notes Reader's Favorite. "I was drawn into the story immediately and had a hard time putting it down."
By protecting life and bringing a corporation to justice, the friends discover that their combined talents are the "how"—the essential tools—for the greater "why": the fierce protection of their world. The book celebrates the profound benefit of teamwork, illustrating that true purpose is often found not in solitude, but in collaboration for a cause greater than oneself.
