This partnership reflects the growing importance of resilient, dual-use space technologies in both government and commercial domains. By aligning their capabilities, ASTI and Defiant are well positioned to serve the rapidly expanding $1 trillion global space economy projected by 2040.
Teaming Agreement with Emtel Energy USA to Advance Thin-Film PV Energy Storage Capabilities
On September 16th ASTI announced the signing of a teaming agreement with Emtel Energy USA, a provider of graphene-based electrostatic long duration energy storage (ELDES). The agreement is intended to achieve mutually beneficial goals that would advance Emtel Energy's energy storage capabilities and aid the proliferation of ASTI thin-film PV solutions in space environments.
Emtel Energy has developed a high-agility solid-state graphene battery alternative that circumvents the low energy density and swift degradation concerns that plague flow batteries. This durable power storage technology, paired with ASTI thin-film PV, will be instrumental in powering satellites, spacecraft and other space architecture. "The Department of Defense and Space Force are in great need of durable, reliable energy production and storage technologies that can withstand the punishing elements of space," said Paul Warley, CEO of ASTI. "Our lightweight, flexible thin-film PV, combined with Emtel Energy's long-lasting energy storage technology, creates an ideal offering for these organizations as they seek out solutions that will stick around for the long haul while they continue to build out their space vehicle infrastructure."
MOU with Star Catcher Industries to Improve Power Capabilities for Thin-Film Solar Technology in Space
On August 28th ASTI announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Star Catcher Industries, a company pioneering the first space energy grid, to achieve mutually beneficial goals that would aid the proliferation of thin-film PV solutions in space environments. Star Catcher is creating the first-of-its kind space-to-space power beaming service. By transmitting concentrated solar energy to clients' existing onboard solar arrays – with no retrofit required – it provides satellite operators with up to five to ten times more power.
ASTI will explore the following in partnership with Star Catcher:
Power Augmentation for ASTI Customers: Integrating Star Catcher's beamed energy to provide augmented power, even during high-demand operations.
Power Availability Amid Outages: Star Catcher's platform can aid ASTI customers during outages, such as eclipses or power failure, ensuring uninterrupted operations.
Bundled Solutions for Joint Customers: Offering joint power solutions that seamlessly intertwine ASTI thin-film PV technology with Star Catcher's power augmentation capabilities.

Corporate Update Detailing Customer Pipeline and Sales Progress in Space and Aerospace Industries
On August 6th ASTI published a corporate update detailing its customer and sales progress, as well as its strategy to meet growth opportunities in the aerospace and space industries.
The full report can be viewed here: https://ascentsolar.com/hubfs/23126419/ASTI%20Presentation%20August%202025.pdf?hsLang=en and projects 2026 sales to reach $5 million to $20 million, and 2027 sales to achieve $25 million to $40 million.
Agreement to Deliver Thin-Film Solar Technology to a Colorado-Based Space Solar Array Provider for Product Evaluation
On July 16th ASTI announced an agreement to supply a Colorado-based power systems provider with thin-film PV technology for evaluation and potential incorporation into the provider's established array product offering. ASTI will deliver the units for evaluation before the end of July 2025, demonstrating its market-leading speed to fulfill orders.
Collaborative Agreement Notice with NASA to Advance Development of Thin-Film PV Power Beaming Capabilities
On June 26th ASTI announced commencing work on a Collaborative Agreement Notice (CAN) with NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) and support from NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) to efficiently advance capabilities for receiving beamed power using CIGS PV modules.
The CAN is evaluating the ability of ASTI CIGS PV modules to generate power while illuminated by energy-dense beams of light, with goals to convert more usable power from the equivalent of tens of Earth's Sun. The ability to remotely receive 10x more power on-demand while using the same PV cells tasked with collecting sunlight can significantly reduce solar array mass and volume required to meet mission power needs. In practice, this suggests that beamed-power architectures can lead to reductions of both spacecraft mass and volume budgets. These size efficiencies will result in agency payloads proportionally increasing relative to the spacecraft as a whole, thus allowing the prioritization of more technology, science and exploration within limited mission budgets.
