WALSENBURG ~ WALSENBURG - Governor Jared Polis made a special visit to Lathrop State Park today to celebrate its victory in the Colorado State Park March Madness Bracket. The park, which was selected by Coloradans as their favorite state park, was recognized for its stunning natural beauty and dedicated staff.

As part of the celebration, Governor Polis met with the hardworking employees of Lathrop State Park who have been instrumental in keeping it running smoothly for both locals and visitors. The governor expressed his pride in the park's recognition, especially as Colorado celebrates its 150th birthday this year.

"Lathrop State Park holds a special place in the hearts of Coloradans, and it's only fitting that it has been chosen as the winner of our annual March Madness bracket," said Governor Polis. "For over six decades, this park has provided a peaceful escape for fishing, camping, and enjoying breathtaking views of the Spanish Peaks. As Colorado's first state park, Lathrop has set the standard for preserving our iconic outdoors and offering opportunities for people to get outside, stay active, and explore."

In addition to celebrating Lathrop State Park's victory, Governor Polis also highlighted his efforts to make Colorado's state parks more accessible to all. In 2021, he signed legislation creating the Keep Colorado Wild Pass, which offers a reduced price of $29 for access to all 43 state parks. This pass will be available starting January 3rd, 2023. Additionally, those who qualify can sign up for the Centennial State Park Pass at an even lower cost of $14.

The governor's visit to Lathrop State Park serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving and protecting Colorado's natural wonders while also making them accessible to everyone.
