- Celebrating Earth Day: Governor Polis Signs Executive Order Protecting Colorado's Environment and Fostering Sustainability and Efficiency in State Government
DENVER ~ In a mid-legislative session press conference today, Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that March 15th, 2025 will be proclaimed as Colorado Canada Friendship Day. The day will serve as a celebration of the strong and important relationship between Colorado and Canada, which is not only the state's largest trading partner but also the second largest market for international travelers visiting Colorado.
Joined by Canadian Consul General Sylvain Fabi, Governor Polis expressed his excitement for the upcoming event. "Colorado is opening our arms to celebrate the historic, economic and cultural bilateral friendship with Canada," he stated. "We are made stronger by our connection to international partners like Canada, and Colorado will continue to treat Canada as the strong ally they are."
The governor also highlighted the critical role that the trade relationship and deep ties between the two countries play in lowering costs and expanding opportunities for businesses in Colorado. He expressed pride in their efforts to strengthen opportunities for cultural, technological, and scientific exchange.

Consul General Fabi echoed Governor Polis' sentiments, stating that "Canada is a great partner, ally and friend to Colorado and the United States." He also thanked Governor Polis for recognizing the history and strength of their partnership.
According to recent data from 2023, Colorado exported $1.8 billion in goods and produce to Canada, accounting for 18% of its trade exports. This includes a significant amount of beef from local farmers and ranchers. Additionally, 176,612 visitors from Canada traveled to Colorado in the same year, providing a boost to the state's tourism industry and supporting small businesses.
Furthermore, there are currently 272 Canadian-owned companies operating in Colorado, employing over 21,000 workers. This further highlights the mutually beneficial relationship between the two nations.
To mark this special day of friendship between Colorado and Canada on March 15th, 2025, Governor Polis has planned several events. The Canadian flag will be flown at the Colorado State Capitol and the building will be lit in red and white, the colors of the Canadian flag. This gesture serves as a symbol of the strong partnership between the two nations.
Governor Polis also announced that he will be hosting a Colorado Mexico Friendship Day, with details to be announced at a later date. With these celebrations, Governor Polis hopes to strengthen and honor the important relationships between Colorado and its neighboring countries.
