Abenes, who has been labeled as a "Sexually Violent Predator" by the Colorado Courts, is required by law to be notified to the community.
In accordance with Colorado law, the police department has taken several steps to ensure that the community is aware of Abenes's presence. This includes notifying the Colorado Department of Public Safety's Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) Notification Team and reviewing and confirming his residence, employment, access to vehicles, legal status, and past crimes.
Additionally, neighbors and businesses in the immediate area have been notified of Abenes's presence. Patrol personnel have also been briefed on his status, history, appearance, residence, employment and vehicles. Surrounding law enforcement agencies have also been informed.
