~ Starting in mid-August, drivers in Colorado Springs can expect some nighttime single-lane closures on the Woodmen Road bridge over North Academy Boulevard and Woodmen Road from East Rockrimmon Boulevard to Olga Wilson Way. According to city officials, these closures will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and are expected to last for about three months.
The construction project, which is set to begin on Monday, August 11, will focus on fixing the Woodmen Road bridge over Academy Boulevard and nearby ramps. This includes resurfacing the bridge and nearby pavement for a smoother drive. In addition, crews will also be repairing worn concrete, refreshing pavement markings, and making minor sidewalk and curb repairs.
While businesses in the area will remain open during this time, drivers are being asked to use alternate routes if possible. The city is also reminding residents that this is the last year of the second 2C Road Improvement Program, which is funded by a 0.57% sales tax approved by voters in 2019.

In addition to the bridge work, the City will also be repaving Woodmen Road from East Rockrimmon Boulevard to Olga Wilson Way using funds from the second version of 2C. This work will also take place at night and is expected to last for 3-5 weeks depending on weather conditions.
It's important to note that some follow-up work may occur after this time as well. However, city officials are confident that these improvements will greatly benefit drivers in the area and help keep roads safe and reliable.
The Woodmen Road bridge project is being funded by Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) funds, which were approved by voters through a sales tax initiative. PPRTA is a collaborative effort among six regional governments aimed at improving and maintaining roads as well as supporting public transit.
With these improvements underway, residents can look forward to a smoother and safer driving experience on Woodmen Road. The city is grateful for the support of voters and is committed to using these funds to continue improving roads in Colorado Springs.
