~ The City of Colorado Springs has announced plans to begin a project this week that will aim to alleviate traffic congestion on Woodmen Road. According to city officials, the project will involve adjustments to the center median lane between Campus Drive and Interstate 25.
The main focus of the project is to reconfigure the concrete center median, as well as make changes to traffic signal heads and street signage. Additionally, roadway markings will be replaced in order to improve traffic flow for motorists heading westbound on Woodmen Road as they access southbound Interstate 25.
To achieve this goal, the project will extend left turn lanes and increase queuing space by removing one of the two left turn lanes off eastbound Woodmen Road to northbound Campus Drive. The City's analysis has shown that a single turn lane at this location is sufficient for current traffic demand.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of June. During this time, one lane in each direction on Woodmen Road will be closed, leaving two through-lanes open in each direction. However, officials have assured that this will not impact traffic accessing Interstate 25 in either direction.
This project is being done ahead of the 2C Road Improvement program, which is set to repave Woodmen Road later this summer. The City encourages anyone with concerns during the project to reach out to City Engineering at City.Engineering@coloradosprings.gov or via phone at (719) 385-5918.
