~ Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services is currently working diligently to clean up North Cheyenne Cañon Park after a severe storm caused significant damage to the area. The storm resulted in debris flows, road damage, and unsafe conditions on North Cheyenne Canyon Road and Gold Camp Road.
Over the past two days, City crews have been hard at work removing large amounts of debris and scree from affected areas. This has allowed for a thorough assessment of the roadway conditions and any storm-related damage. Crews are actively evaluating the conditions and continuing cleanup efforts throughout the park.
As a result of the storm impacts, North Cheyenne Canyon Road is currently closed to vehicle traffic at the main entrance to North Cheyenne Cañon Park. Additionally, Gold Camp Road is closed to vehicle traffic within the park starting near Bonnie Vista Drive. These closures will remain in effect while City crews continue their cleanup, assessment, and repair work. A timeline for reopening will be determined once all damage assessments have been completed and necessary repairs have been identified.

While North Cheyenne Cañon Park remains open for hiking and biking access on designated trails, visitors are asked to avoid all roadways while cleanup and repair work is underway. This is due to heavy equipment, maintenance vehicles, and repair crews potentially creating hazardous conditions on the roads at any time.
Due to the road closures, there are some important changes for visitors to note. Vehicle access to Helen Hunt Falls is currently unavailable. Additionally, there is no access to the Powell parking area which is typically used to access Seven Bridges Trail. Bicycles are also not permitted on any of the closed roadways. Visitors are reminded to stay on designated park trails and avoid all closed roads and work areas.
Scott Abbott, Regional Parks, Trails and Open Space Manager expressed his appreciation for the public's patience during this time as crews work diligently to safely assess damage and determine necessary repairs to reopen the roads. He also emphasized that the safety of visitors and staff remains the top priority.
The City is also working closely with organizers of the upcoming Pikes Peak APEX event to evaluate current conditions and determine if any course modifications may be necessary. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
