DENVER ~ Denver, CO - Governor Jared Polis and Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera welcomed Premier Charles Washington Misick of the Turks and Caicos Islands to Colorado yesterday to discuss the strong relationship and economic ties between the two regions.
During the meeting, Governor Polis expressed his enthusiasm for Colorado's international partnerships, stating that while Washington DC isolates itself, Colorado is embracing its global connections to strengthen its economy, tourism industry, culture, and workforce. He also highlighted the potential for increased tourism and trade between Colorado and the islands.
Lt. Governor Primavera echoed this sentiment, stating that she was honored to welcome Premier Misick and his delegation to Colorado. She emphasized that this engagement reflects Colorado's value of inclusivity and creating a welcoming environment for all.
Premier Misick also shared his thoughts on the meeting, describing it as "exceptionally productive." He noted that while their jurisdictions may differ in size and scale, they both face similar challenges as successful destinations experiencing growth. In 2025, Colorado companies exported $1.1 million in goods to the islands, representing a 19.5% increase over the last five years. Additionally, nearly 2 million Americans travel to Turks and Caicos each year, making up a significant portion of international tourists on the island.
This engagement further demonstrates both regions' commitment to building strategic partnerships that strengthen access, tourism, and economic opportunities for their people. As they continue to work together towards mutual growth and success, it is clear that Colorado's relationship with Turks and Caicos will only continue to strengthen.
