~ Colorado Springs - The City of Colorado Springs has announced the start of a drainage improvement project at the intersection of Wooten Road and Galley Road. According to recent Colorado Springs Utilities waterline work in the area, the project aims to rehabilitate and extend the existing box culvert beneath the intersection to address aging infrastructure and drainage concerns.
In addition to these improvements, the project will also include upgraded sidewalks, curb ramps, and pedestrian crossings to enhance accessibility and pedestrian safety. The construction is set to begin on Wednesday and is expected to continue through late 2026.
As part of this project, Wooten Road north of Galley Road will be closed starting on June 10 for several months. Travelers are advised to use Murray Boulevard or Babcock Road as a detour route to access Palmer Park Boulevard and bypass the work zone. During this phase of construction, Galley Road will remain open with one lane of traffic in each direction.

To ensure safety during construction, travelers are urged to plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes. On June 9, crews will be working in the eastbound right lane of Galley Road to place temporary pavement. Motorists are advised to watch out for crews and equipment adjacent to travel lanes and use caution when passing through the area.
To minimize travel disruptions, construction will occur in phases. In a future phase of work, Wooten Road south of Galley Road will also be closed for construction. However, access to businesses near the work zone will remain open throughout the duration of the project.
The City encourages community members to stay connected by visiting ColoradoSprings.gov/WootenGalley for more information. To receive text alerts about traffic impacts and construction updates, individuals can text WOOTEN to 866-762-3640. Questions can also be directed towards the project hotline at 719-300-5034 or by emailing Wooten.Galley@gmail.com.
It is important to note that all construction activities are weather-dependent and schedules and project phasing are subject to change. The City of Colorado Springs is committed to keeping the community informed and ensuring the safety of all travelers during this drainage improvement project.
