~ The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District (USACE), has released a draft Integrated Feasibility Report & Environmental Assessment (IFR-EA) for an upcoming ecosystem restoration project in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The project, titled Spring Creek Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration, aims to revamp the Spring Creek corridor and improve the stream-riparian zone function.
The draft IFR-EA evaluates various alternatives to ensure that the management of natural, cultural, and socioeconomic resources within the project area complies with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. The preferred plan includes measures such as slope stabilization, in-stream structures, and vegetation plantings.

This restoration project is expected to provide numerous benefits to the surrounding communities of Colorado Springs and the greater Fountain Creek watershed system. The construction schedule is still being finalized but is tentatively set to begin in 2027 and conclude in 2030. The USACE is currently coordinating with other agencies to determine the best course of action.
