Colorado Springs: September brings Manitou Incline closures and new Pikes Peak operating hours

~ As the summer season comes to an end, visitors planning trips to the Manitou Incline Trail or Pikes Peak – America's Mountain in September should take note of some upcoming changes that may affect their plans. The popular Manitou Incline Trail will be temporarily closed for several events throughout the month, while Pikes Peak – America's Mountain has updated its operating hours ahead of its seasonal change on October 1st.

According to officials, the Manitou Incline Trail will be closed until 9 a.m. on September 11th for the 9/11 Memorial Climb. This closure is to honor and remember those who lost their lives in the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. Additionally, the trail will also be closed until noon on September 19th for the Pikes Peak Ascent race.

Due to potential weather uncertainties and safety precautions, the summit of Pikes Peak – America's Mountain will be closed to highway visitors, including spectators of the Pikes Peak Ascent race, until 1 p.m. Guests who wish to drive to the summit can make reservations for a time slot after 1 p.m. The North Slope Recreation Area will still open at its regular time of 7:30 a.m.

On September 20th, the Manitou Incline Trail will be closed all day for the annual Pikes Peak Marathon. However, this closure will not impact access to Pikes Peak – America's Mountain.

In addition to these closures and changes, Pikes Peak – America's Mountain has also updated its operating hours for the remainder of September. The uphill gate now closes at 5 p.m., with the summit closing at 6 p.m. and downhill gate closing at 7 p.m. These hours will be in effect until October 1st, when the seasonal hours will change.

Starting on October 1st and lasting until the Thursday before Memorial Day, the operating hours for Pikes Peak – America's Mountain will be as follows: the uphill gate opens at 9 a.m., with the last entry at 3 p.m. The summit will close at 4 p.m. and the downhill gate will close at 5 p.m.
