~ Colorado Springs Police Department's K9 Loki is set to receive a generous donation of a bullet and stab protective vest, thanks to the efforts of non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vest will be sponsored by Laura and Tom Kelecy of Colorado Springs, CO and will be embroidered with the heartfelt message "Gifted by Laura & Tom Kelecy in K9 Britta's Memory". It is expected to be delivered within the next ten weeks.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. was established in 2009 with the mission of providing protective vests and other assistance to law enforcement dogs across the United States. This particular vest for K9 Loki is custom fitted, U.S. made, and certified by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), making it potentially life-saving for the four-legged officer. The organization has already provided over 5,970 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states through private and corporate donations.

The program is open to all U.S. dogs who are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. Even K9s with expired vests are eligible to participate. With an estimated 30,000 law enforcement dogs throughout the country, this donation has the potential to make a significant impact.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. welcomes tax-deductible contributions of any amount, but a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest for a deserving K9 officer. Each vest has a value of $1800.00 and weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., with a five-year warranty included. For those interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities or making a contribution, please contact (508) 824-6978 or visit their website at www.vik9s.org. Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 9, East Taunton, MA 02718.
The Colorado Springs Police Department's Public Affairs Section reminds the media that all updates regarding this donation will come directly from them when available. This generous donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and the Kelecys will not only provide K9 Loki with much-needed protection but also serve as a tribute to the memory of K9 Britta.
