~ Colorado Springs, CO - The City of Colorado Springs Stormwater Enterprise (SWENT) has announced a new project in partnership with El Paso County to improve storm drainage in the Park Vista South Neighborhood. Construction is set to begin on February 3, weather permitting.
The project, which is expected to last through late 2026, aims to address public safety concerns and mitigate drainage and flooding issues that have long affected the Templeton Gap Floodway. The work will focus on the area between the western intersection of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street to Hopeful Drive.
As part of the construction, the western intersection of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street will be permanently closed. The three legs of Siferd Boulevard and Date Street will be reconstructed into cul-de-sacs, while still allowing for emergency vehicle access and turn around capacity.

Travelers in the area are advised to plan for additional travel time and seek alternate routes. Permanent traffic detours have been established, including using Hollow Road to Half Turn Road to access Academy Boulevard or taking Austin Bluffs to the north part of Siferd Boulevard to reach Hopeful Drive.
Once the cul-de-sacs are completed, work will continue on stabilizing the remainder of the creek up to Hopeful Drive. This will also involve replacing the Hopeful Drive bridge over the creek in fall 2025. As a result, there will be a nine-month full closure of Hopeful Drive with detours in place.
The City has contracted Wildcat Construction for this project, which is estimated to cost $11 million including design and construction. Funding for this project comes from a combination of El Paso County's American Rescue Plan Act funds and Stormwater Enterprise funds from the City of Colorado Springs.
