Colorado Springs: City shares independent sound study of Ford Amphitheater concert noise

Trending...
~ On November 1st, the City of Colorado Springs released the findings of an independent sound study conducted by Hankard Environmental, Inc. The study was commissioned by the City in response to noise complaints from nearby residents during three October concerts at the Ford Amphitheater. The amphitheater, which opened on August 9th, 2024, has been a source of concern for some community members due to its impact on noise levels.

According to Travis Easton, deputy chief of staff of infrastructure and development, the purpose of the study was to gain a better understanding of the sound levels experienced by neighbors and to ensure an unbiased analysis of the situation. While the amphitheater is currently meeting the requirements set out in its development plan, Easton acknowledges that there have been disruptions for some residents. He reassures that the City is committed to working with both neighbors and VENU, owner of the Ford Amphitheater, to address these concerns.

In addition to this independent study, VENU has also been conducting their own research on noise levels throughout their concert season. They are currently preparing a final report that will include data from all concerts in 2024. This report is a requirement outlined in their development plan which was approved by City Council in 2023. VENU has voluntarily shared preliminary noise data with City Administration, City Council, and community members this year.

Furthermore, VENU has been actively working on sound mitigation strategies and regularly meeting with City officials to share their progress. Their most recent meeting took place on October 25th. The City expects to receive more details and a timeline for these efforts from VENU in the coming weeks. This is well ahead of the anticipated start of the 2025 concert season in May.

The results of this independent sound study and ongoing efforts by VENU demonstrate a commitment from both parties to address noise concerns raised by nearby residents. With continued collaboration and communication between all parties involved, it is hoped that a solution can be reached to ensure a positive experience for both concert-goers and the surrounding community.
