~ Colorado Springs Airport (COS) has reached a significant milestone in its history with the launch of its first scheduled international flight. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Southwest Airlines operated its inaugural nonstop seasonal route between COS and Cancun International Airport (CUN).
The weekly service will run every Saturday throughout the summer, with additional flights scheduled for November 22 and 29, December 20 and 27, 2025, and January 3, 2026. Travelers can now purchase tickets for this new route on Southwest's website.
According to Alex Kovacs, Acting Director of Aviation at Colorado Springs Airport, "This flight marks a historic moment for both our airport and the community we proudly serve, as COS becomes an international airport." He also added that the launch of international service with Southwest Airlines is made possible by their new state-of-the-art Federal Inspection Station (FIS), which enhances the speed and convenience that passengers expect from COS.

The new FIS facility spans over 16,300 square feet and was built in anticipation of international service. It enables efficient U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing for arriving international passengers. The project was funded by a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law's Airport Infrastructure Grant Program, along with airport funds. No local tax dollars were used for this project.
With easy access, value parking options, short security lines, and now efficient customs processing, this new nonstop route to Cancun solidifies COS as the smart choice for travelers in the community. The airport is excited to offer this new international service through Southwest Airlines and looks forward to welcoming more travelers from around the world.
