Colorado: Governors Polis, Stitt Issue Statement on Potential Medicaid Funding Cuts

Trending...
Washington, D.C. ~ In a joint statement released today, National Governors Association (NGA) Chair Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Vice Chair Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt expressed their commitment to advocating for a strong and efficient health and human services system, specifically in regards to Medicaid. As representatives of the 55 states and territories, the governors emphasized the importance of flexibility and waiver opportunities, as well as funding for state and territory-designed programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF.

The NGA is urging Congress to consider the impact of any proposed reductions to Medicaid on state budgets, rural hospitals, and healthcare service providers. Without proper consultation and planning, these cuts could have detrimental effects on the delivery of essential services. The governors also stressed the need for their involvement in discussions surrounding reforms and cuts to Medicaid funding.

According to Polis and Stitt, states and territories should have more flexibility in administering these programs in a way that best meets the needs of their citizens. As leaders representing diverse populations across the country, they believe it is crucial for governors to have a seat at the table when making decisions that will greatly impact their constituents' access to vital healthcare services.
