DENVER ~ Denver, CO - On the one-year anniversary of the horrific Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel, Governor Polis has released a statement reflecting on the tragic events and calling for peace and the release of remaining hostages.
October 7th is a day that will forever be remembered as the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Families were attacked in their homes and daily lives, violating their basic right to safety. The attacks also resulted in the capture of over one hundred hostages, including seven Americans, who are still being held captive in Gaza.
The aftermath of these heinous attacks has been a year filled with war, pain, loss, and devastation. Governor Polis is urging for the urgent release of all remaining hostages and pleading for greater peace and respect for human rights in the region.
Among those still in captivity are Ariel Bibas, who was only 9 months old when he was taken hostage, and 86-year-old Shlomo Mantzu. Governor Polis emphasizes that it is time to bring them and all others held by Hamas back home.

In addition to the physical toll on those directly affected by these attacks, there has also been an increase in antisemitism and Islamophobia around the world. However, Governor Polis assures that Colorado stands strong against hate and violence towards any group. He states that "hate and violence have no home in Colorado."
The governor continues to work towards creating a safe and inclusive environment for all individuals to thrive in Colorado. He mourns not only for those killed in Israel but also for those who lost their lives in Gaza and Lebanon during this ongoing conflict.
Governor Polis stresses the importance of finding a peaceful resolution through negotiations between all parties involved. He believes that this is crucial for ending the devastating violence and bringing all hostages back to their homes safely.
As we remember those who lost their lives on October 7th last year, let us also hope for a future where peace and respect for human rights prevail in the region. May their memory be a blessing, and may we soon see the safe return of all hostages and an end to this tragic chapter.
