DENVER ~ Denver, CO - On Saturday, December 7, 2024, flags across the United States will be flown at half-staff in honor of the 2,403 service members and civilians who lost their lives in the attack on Pearl Harbor 83 years ago. This order was given by Governor Polis at the direction of President Biden.
In a proclamation issued by President Biden, he stated that on National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, it is important to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that tragic December morning. He also recognized the bravery of the service members who stood up to defend democracy and fight against fascism during World War II.
As we reflect on the accomplishments of the Greatest Generation, President Biden reminded us that they risked everything for the idea of America and its values. He emphasized that freedom is never guaranteed and must be earned and defended by each generation in the ongoing battle between autocracy and democracy.
The President also highlighted his administration's efforts to care for our service members and veterans, especially those who served during World War II. This includes enrolling all World War II veterans in Veterans Affairs health care services regardless of their length of service or financial status. Additionally, access to benefits has been expanded for those who participated in testing and clean-up activities related to World War II weapons programs.

On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, President Biden urged Americans to remember those who lost their lives on that fateful day in 1941 and honor all service members who have given their lives in defense of democracy since then. He called upon everyone to recommit themselves to creating a future grounded in freedom, democracy, equality, and opportunity for all.
This day holds special significance as it was designated as "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day" by Congress through Public Law 103-308. It is a time for Americans to pay tribute to those who perished or were wounded during the attack on Pearl Harbor and to fulfill our sacred obligation to care for our service members, veterans, and their families.
In his proclamation, President Biden urged all federal agencies, organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff on December 7, 2024. This is a small but meaningful gesture to honor the American patriots who lost their lives in service to their country.
As we approach this solemn day of remembrance, let us reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve our nation. Let us also express our sincere gratitude to the survivors of Pearl Harbor for their bravery and resilience. May we never forget the lessons learned from that tragic day and may we always strive towards a future that upholds the values for which they fought.
