DENVER ~ Today, Governor Jared Polis embarked on a tour of various cities in Colorado to commemorate the state's 150th anniversary. The sesquicentennial celebration marks 150 years of statehood, progress, and resilience. From the steps of the Capitol to communities across the Front Range, Governor Polis joined in celebrating the diverse and vibrant history of Colorado since its establishment in 1876.

In a statement, Governor Polis expressed his excitement to be a part of this momentous occasion and celebrate with fellow Coloradans. He emphasized the significance of honoring the past while looking towards a bright future for the state. "Happy Birthday Colorado! I am excited to be joining so many Coloradans today to celebrate our great state's 150th birthday," said Governor Polis. "Today honors the history that makes us who we are as a state, and the bright future we are working towards every day."

The celebrations kicked off at History Colorado with a community festival where Governor Polis participated in a John Denver sing-along and highlighted Colorado's progress and promising future. The festival also featured special art markets, pancake breakfasts, and Colorado Proud Markets for all Coloradans to enjoy.

Governor Polis then joined members of the Colorado Hispanic and Latino Heritage Foundation (COHLHF) for another celebration at History Colorado. This event focused on recognizing the significant contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities in shaping Colorado's history. The COHLHF also announced plans for a new museum on Auraria campus that will feature interactive education labs and dynamic exhibits.

At the State Capitol, Governor Polis presented and cut into a special cake made specifically for Colorado's 150th birthday. He also took time to acknowledge and thank dedicated state employees for their service to Colorado.

The governor then visited the Denver Art Museum for their annual Art Market event featuring 50 local artists. As part of their celebration, admission was free for all visitors throughout the day.

In Highlands Ranch, Governor Polis joined in on the Latin Sol celebration, a high-energy event showcasing funk, ranchera, and cumbia music. The celebration highlighted the vibrant rhythms and powerful melodies that are deeply rooted in Hispanic and Latino culture in Colorado.

The festivities continued in Castle Rock at Phillip S. Miller Park for the Colorado Day Festival. Families and members of the Castle Rock community came together for a day filled with food, music, a cornhole competition, and even a centennial beard competition.

Later in the day, Governor Polis will attend the grand opening of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum to view their new exhibit titled "Freedom to Thrive." This exhibit is a significant contribution to the 250/150 commemoration and reflects on both America's Semi-quincentennial and Colorado's Sesquicentennial. It aims to examine opportunities and obstacles to freedom within the community through personal stories and experiences.

To cap off the celebrations, Governor Polis will join in on the party at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site at Garden of the Gods. The outdoor museum showcases cultural and agricultural stories from 1775-1909 through live music, art exhibits, local cuisine, and more.

As Governor Polis continues his tour across Colorado to celebrate this momentous occasion, it is clear that this sesquicentennial is not only a time to reflect on the past but also an opportunity to look towards a bright future for Colorado.
