DENVER ~ Governor Jared Polis of Colorado has announced changes to his communications team, with the departure of Conor Cahill as Communications Director effective February 6. Cahill has been a part of the Governor's communications team since his first term in 2019.
During his time with the Governor's office, Cahill played a crucial role in communicating the administration's policy priorities and achievements, including initiatives such as free universal preschool and full-day kindergarten, housing affordability, renewable energy expansion, economic growth, tax relief, healthcare, and public safety. He also led the communication efforts during the state's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to his work at the state level, Cahill also served as Communications Director for the House Democratic Caucus in the Colorado State Legislature and worked in various roles on Capitol Hill.
Governor Polis expressed his gratitude for Cahill's contributions to the administration over nearly seven years. "Conor has been an invaluable member of our team, guiding our communications through both successes and challenges. His leadership and strategic advice have been instrumental in delivering real results for Colorado," said Governor Polis.

In light of Cahill's departure, Shelby Wieman will be stepping into the role of Communications Director. Wieman has been serving as Press Secretary for Governor Polis since 2023 and has previously held positions as speechwriter and deputy press secretary for both Governor Polis and former Colorado Governor (and current U.S. Senator) John Hickenlooper.
Governor Polis expressed confidence in Wieman's abilities to lead the communications efforts for his administration. "Shelby is a proven leader with exceptional communication skills. She has been an integral part of our team and I am thrilled to have her take on this new role," said Governor Polis.
The application for Press Secretary is now open and can be found on the Governor's website. Both Cahill and Wieman have headshots available for media use.
This announcement comes as Governor Polis continues to work towards his goals of building a stronger Colorado for all. With these changes to his communications team, he hopes to continue effectively communicating with the public and achieving his administration's priorities.
