Exhibition Features Archival Photography and Mixed Media Portraits by Ray Elman
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - ColoradoDesk -- "DISABILITY becomes BEAUTY becomes ART becomes CHANGE"
Bold Beauty Project (BBP), a Miami-based nonprofit, proudly announces a landmark exhibition in celebration of its 10th Anniversary, presented in collaboration with Florida International University (FIU) Miami Beach Urban Studios. This special exhibition showcases a compelling collection from BBP's iconic photographic archives alongside striking mixed media works on canvas by acclaimed artist and ArtSpeak Founding Editor-in-Chief, Ray Elman.
Marking more than a decade of redefining beauty, visibility, and inclusion, the exhibition brings together powerful imagery that challenges conventional narratives around disability and representation. BBP has long been recognized for its evocative portraiture, capturing the strength, individuality, and lived experiences of women with disabilities through an artistic and humanizing lens.
"It was a pleasure to collaborate with the Bold Beauty Project's team to bring this meaningful exhibition to fruition at FIU CARTA'S Miami Beach Urban Studios which opened during Women's History Month, celebrating the visibility, agency, and diverse experiences of women," stated Colette Mello, Art Curator.

The FIU Exhibition will be part of the Miami Beach Culture Crawl on Thursday, April 16th from 6:00-9:00 pm.
"It was exciting to see a retrospective of Bold Beauty Project images at the opening. I truly appreciated the spirit of collaboration and dedication reflected throughout the exhibit and also with the attendees," said Shelly Baer, BBP Founder and Co-director.
The exhibition serves as an educational platform, fostering engagement with FIU students and faculty. Together, BBP and FIU aim to amplify awareness, promote inclusion, and expand the narrative around the intersection of beauty and disability.
Bold Beauty Project expresses profound gratitude to the Alan B. Slifka Foundation and Crisis Case Management for their generosity which has made the FIU exhibition possible.
Eva Ritvo, MD, BBP Co-Director, stated "By engaging FIU's vibrant academic and artistic community, we are not only celebrating our history but also inspiring future generations of photographers and advocates. We look forward to continued partnerships with FIU's students and faculty. We're advancing BBP's mission with FIU along with universities throughout the country." She continued, "For example, UCLA has had BBP exhibitions in 2025 and 2026 organized by UCLA student leaders, Emma Wruck and Alexa Le. The continuing support from the Alan B. Slifka Foundation not only sustains BBP's work but also affirms the importance of celebrating confidence, self-expression and believing in the power of the Bold Beauty Project. We are delighted to continue our collaboration with FIU. We'll be exhibiting photographs of three FIU students at the European Cultural Centre - Italy 2026, alongside the Venice Biennale, from May to November 2026.
