APPLETON, Wis. - ColoradoDesk -- The National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) welcomed attendees to its first ever online conference, TaxCon, with three special keynote speakers kicking off the event.
The session began with Sharyn Fisk, director of the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), relaying information about what taxpayers and tax professionals can expect from today's OPR and the upcoming changes. The OPR oversees tax preparers and other third parties in the tax system who practice before the IRS.
Larry Gray, CPA, NATP government affairs liaison, then discussed the Taxpayer First Act, updating attendees on the IRS's strategy and how it intends to implement the act going forward. The main components of the IRS's strategy fall into three categories: the taxpayer experience, training and organizational redesign.

To end the welcome session, Jorge Olavarrieta, Intuit vice president of Product Management and Strategy, discussed the changing atmosphere surrounding the tax profession and how business is managed through technology. With cloud-based management becoming the norm, Intuit is confident tax and accounting professionals will have more time to focus on clients, tax planning and advisory services.
The entire welcome session with keynote speakers can be found at: www.natptax.com/taxcon-keynote.
TaxCon was created in lieu of NATP's yearly in-person conference to keep tax professionals educated and up to date on the latest tax news and information. The event included virtual learning to earn certification, interaction between speakers and attendees, and an online Expo Hall to interact with sponsors.
For anyone interested in what TaxCon had to offer, the on-demand sessions can be purchased at: https://www.natptax.com/taxcon.
